Thunderbird Technical Services is one of the premier sources for barcode and label printer repair and maintenance. But finding the right printer can be a bit overwhelming, especially as barcode printers are very different from typical ink printers. There are five primary types of label printers: desktop, industrial, mobile, wristband, and ticket printers.
If you’re looking to make fewer than 500 labels a week, a desktop printer may be the way to go. These work well for office asset labeling and light printing for smaller retail stores.
Industrial printers are capable of running all day long and can print on media from .5†to 8†wide. These are the most reliable option for large scale operations.
As the name implies, mobile printers are great for on-the-go printing. They are compatible with PCs, but also with other cable connections. Like desktop printers, they are less suited to large quantities of printing and really only print labels in 2â€, 3â€, and 4†settings. The prints are generally of a pretty high quality.
Wristband printers use cartridges of wristbands, rather than rolls like other printers. They, like industrial printers, can work all days with very little downtime. They have an extremely high print resolution and also generally come with anti-microbial casings to meet hospital standards and regulations.
Finally, ticket printers are specialized thermal printers equipped to use thicker paper for tickets. They work with both stacked tickets and often with roll tickets.
