https://www.datamax-oneil.com/do/de/DE-DE/index.cfmConfiguring the IP address for the Datamax-O’neil I-4212e is really a very easy process. By going through the control panel, selecting Network Settings, Setting the Permanent IP Address, Gateway and Subnet Mask, then restarting the printer is all that needs to be done. Of course, setting your driver for the proper IP address will complete the setup and you are ready to print.
In enterprise types of environments, the printer can provide misleading information from the control panel depending on the nature of how the IP address is assigned. If the network administrator assigns an IP address based upon MAC Address reservation, the Datamax-O’neil I-4212e will connect using DHCP to that IP address and when a configuration printout is performed, it will report the proper Network information. However, if the IP address is viewed from the control panel, a default address such as 192.168.10.26 may appear. This is because the printer was built to use either DHCP or Permanent Resolution. In DHCP Resolution the address set from the Control Panel is ignored. This address is only used in Permanent Resolution. The proper procedure in obtaining the IP address obtained by the printer is to print out a configuration label, not by viewing the IP Address displayed in Network Settings.
Permanent IP Resolution
Most companies use Permanent IP Resolution. And this is the reason for the discrepancy between the Network settings on the configuration page and the Address appearing on the Control panel.
The firmware written for Datamax-O’neil I-4212e printer assumes the use of Permanent Resolution only to use DHCP to aid the administrator to identify the printer on the network, log into its web page and assign the printer a permanent address (which, of course printers need).
